How CBD Oil Can Treat Anxiety Especially During This Pandemic

CBD Oil Can Treat Anxiety

It has been over a month since the World Health Organization (WHO) finally declared COVID-19 as a pandemic. To say that it has upended our lives since then is a monumental understatement.

With governments issuing stay-at-home orders in an effort to slow down the spread of the newest and very deadly strain of the coronavirus, countless businesses have shut down, and millions of Americans have lost their jobs. Even worse than the economy taking a plunge is the skyrocketing number of Americans who are testing positive for coronavirus and dying because of it.

With COVID-19 cases nearing a million with more than 40,000 deaths as of this writing, the United States of America has become the global epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Considering the gravity of the situation that the whole world is facing, there is a high probability that an emotional pandemic will be following suit if it hasn’t already.

Doctors have been reporting that some of their patients are already exhibiting signs of worry, despair, and depression, particularly among those who are already suffering from an anxiety disorder.

Anxiety disorders are already affecting approximately 40 million American adults every year, making them the most common mental illness in the United States. With the uncertainty that the COVID-19 pandemic brings, it is now very likely for that figure to rise in the coming months.

For anxiety disorders, standard treatment involves psychological counseling and therapy, and medication. For the latter, some go for mainstream prescription drugs, while others go for CBD oil online to treat their anxiety. The question is, will it help treat anxiety in the time of coronavirus?

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, a compound found in cannabis plants like marijuana and hemp. It’s not psychoactive like tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the cannabinoid that makes marijuana users high. What it does is provide relief for a number of ailments, including anxiety.

CBD and Anxiety

Claims that CBD, which is usually available in oil or tincture form but is often infused in products ranging from lollipops to lotions, helps treat anxiety is backed up by science.

New York University School of Medicine researchers have already established in a study the potential of cannabidiol as a treatment for anxiety disorders in a study. Patients suffering from a social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder may get short-term help from CBD, the researchers said.

Separate research also reported a reduction in the overall anxiety levels of subjects who were given CBD, as opposed to those administered a placebo.

CBD is believed to help with anxiety by interacting with our endocannabinoid system, which has receptors in the nervous system, brain, and other parts that control behavior and mood, among other things.

Other Uses of CBD

CBD also happens to be an FDA-approved prescription medication in the form of Epidiolex. Greenwich Biosciences, Inc. manufactures the drug, which is a highly purified form of CBD designed to treat seizures brought on by Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome, two rare forms of epilepsy.

Many CBD customers also use cannabidiol products for pain relief, aid in sleeping, acne treatment, and even as pet care.

While it’s true that CBD still needs more scientific studies to establish it firmly as a viable treatment for a wide variety of medical conditions—anxiety included—the results of early research and the positive feedback it has been getting from its users have been very promising.

So, if you want to give CBD a try as a treatment for anxiety in the time of coronavirus, talk to your physician about it.
